One of the good things about traveling is not only to get to meet amazing people but amazing people with amazing projects going on. Getting to Coban its a lil hard on your own, you need a guide and a 4x4 to get through all the crazy up and down roads and secret paths that takes you to one of the most pretty corners of the world, but we got to this awesome tour guides that took us there and showed us what they are up to.

This is the company of my friend Juan and his partner called Quetsol, they just made this dope video explaining how they get to reach with clean energy all the isolated families all over Guatemala.

GUATEMALA.
Sorry for the lack of post on GGL and here but my birthday was more like a long week celebration. So yes my friends, I'm in Guatemala,, celebrating 28 months of freedom, traveling, madness, new friends, old friends, sleeping anywhere, eating whatever and spreading the word about the wild horse spirit.
It's been a long journey that I never thought I could take it this far and here I am, but every adventure has its end and by the 30th month I'm gonna hang my "traveling boots" and chill for a while, work on personal projects that I have left on the side and rest my head for a minute. Give me a year and I will be back on track.

NIGHT TRAIN.

Taking the night train (12hours) from Shanghai to Beijing is a very popular way of transportation, you can actually take a speed train but its 3 time more expensive. Book it as soon as you get to Shanghai, and good luck with finding someone that speaks some english behind the counter, but DO NOT BUY hard seat (its basically a terrace chair with carpet on top) and DONT EVEN THINK about buying a "stand up seat", yeah its a very cheap ticket that means "when somone stands up, you can take their seat" (it will never happen) but it will get the train filled like its the L train in rush hour. China is not famous for their eating manners so expect people being extra loud eating and spilling very smelly food over you, people cutting their toe nails next to you, people spitting on the floor or wall and if you are as lucky as me you can even see a head coming between your legs from an old man sleeping under your seat. My highlight was going to pee walking over 100 chinese man and when I get to the stinky toilet I found an old man sleeping over the sink in a fetus position, I wanted to go get my camera and take a picture but the 3 wagon headwalk back and forth was not worth it.

Also if you are into kicks or know people that can be into, please blog or post on sneaker forums (not sure how they work really) my ebay list, I'll keep putting new kicks up daily until Oct 5th that I leave again for new adventures.

When Maxx from TWGG came to me looking for HC/RAP thing I knew we had to go to the Chop Shop and talk to Mike Malborn, I've seen this man do magic more than once, he pulls contacts out of his berry like no one and makes relationships between both sides work in a matter of seconds.
I'm very glad two good friends made something this awesome happen.

SHANGHAI.

Never been to actual China (not sure if Shanghai is real China but its def something), I was in Hong Kong back in '98 when they got their independence from the Brits but that was about it.
An old friend of mine moved to Shanghai like many people from Spain looking for a "better" life a few years ago. Its funny how sometimes when you are very close to someone it doesnt matter how many years you spent not seeing or hearing from that person, that friendship still as pure as when you played football when you were 7 years old.

ANGKOR WAT.

Crossing 7 Wonders of my list is one of my favorite things to do. It gives you not only a closer look to history but a calm inside that you are getting to know this world better and better everyday. The ruins of Angkor Wat are definitely on my top 5 so if you get the chance to visit Cambodia do not doubt to destroy your feet and spent some long hours under the Cambodian heat feeling the left over memories of the 12 Century. You may wanna spend some extra bucks on a Tuk Tuk driver for the whole day that will not only drive you around but will have cold water waiting for you when you finish every temple.

CH CH CHANGES.

It's far from over but the idea is there, I feel like I need to do something else/more and it does not mean I'm changing the plan but maybe the ways. This 2 last years have opened my eyes in many ways and I feel like I have to do something with all the thoughts in my head, books, folders, pictures, etc.

DO WE REALLY WANT TO HURT YOU?

A stop at the War Museum in Siem Reap is almost as needed as a visit to the Angkor Wat ruins. The left (not very well preserved) overs of one of the most brutal, dark and recent military take overs. You can also visit the victim ramains in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh but a visit to the War Museum will give you a close more human look to what was really going down at the Khmer Rouge regime plus the tour guides are war survivors and all the money goes to the land mine victims. On July 21st a projection of photographs curated by Hatnim Lee and Lauren Duque under the name JUST BECAUSE will be taking place at the 2A Bar (25th Ave NYC) from 9 to 11 pm.

730 DAYS LATER.

In May '09 I went on a relaxing trip to Los Angeles that ended up in a re-thinking life trip. We still hit the beach, went out, got burritos and the basic borderline shit you do in LA but mainly I chilled by a pool thiking of what will I need in this life to actually be not happy but less unhappy. During those days I started playing with an old P&S Minolta that I bought a few months back in Barcelona.
It took me 3 months to figure things out and set a new path to follow but I kept using old cameras since then, somehow I felt I had to leave digital behind me among so many other things and started GGL in July '09. I wanted to start a new blog that will represent a new life, nothing digital, nothing written, just song titles and adventures of my daily life in pictures. So today 730 days later and with more than a hundred thousand hits, here in Beijing I say happy birthday to GGL.

SE ASIA (ALMOST) DONE.
Sorry for the lack of posts here and on GGL. Let's say I've been on vacation of my vacations ,Wild Horses deserve a rest too, but no real rest actually, I've been jumping on a truck/bus/train/plane/tuk-tuk every 2 days more or less, crossed Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos in a lil less than a month. Tons of film ready, none develope and still a man with no computer.
Next week I'll be in China with an old friend and if I see/find a lil corner of peace to blog I'll develope some bad boys or maybe even buy a comunist computer, who knows but be certain I'll keep taking pictures everyday of lost sides of the world and wearing tank tops.

I'ts probably one of the first bars I went to NYC, and even if I was never a resident or actually a fan of the place I was upset when I heard that Max Fish was closing its doors, like first CBGB's, now Max Fish... PETTY BONE.

When I moved to London back in '04 I moved to a house with 6 Polish people, a Portuguese, an Enlgish and a German shy girl (that was Amy). When I just crossed the west bank border and made it to Jerusalem, I got an e-mail that Amy was actually coming to Jerusalem that day (facebook does awesome things from time to time), I was actually leaving to Tel Aviv in a lil bit but I sent her an email to see if we can link up another day, then she told me she was actually on tour with her band Petty Bone so I went to see their show later on that week. MATKOT "THAT SPORT".

During my first beach day in Tel Aviv I noticed a considerable amount of people playing beach tennis, mostly dudes thinking they were playing the coolest sport on earth when in my head I was just thinking “and you guys still wonder why you guys suck at sports? You guys play the lamest of all them”, walking down the pier then I saw a huge line of people playing that and then I had to ask what the hell was wrong with everyone playing that shit and I was told it was sort of the national sport so I had to make verbal my thoughts and say “and you guys still wonder why you suck at sports?” but give them a little compliment saying they were great telling jokes.

One day while we were on our way for the famous “Israeli Breakfast” I took a photo of this posts filled with rackets and then this little man with a super hi voice tone said something to me in Hebrew, my friends translated and he was inviting us to the Matkot Museum but he was actually saying “come see my house it’s filled with rackets, trophies, Elvis records and tiger blankets”… The adventure? One lovely evening enjoying the sun of the Lower East Side and awaiting for my friend Nicole to finish her shift I run into her old roommate Jenna, she heard about my travels and I told her I wanted to go to the Middle East and Asia next, then she really insisted I had to go to Jordan and meet “Ali” (the best guy in Jordan).

So as soon as I got my plans together I wrote Ali and asked him for help with my stay in Jordan, he hooked me up with places to stay, people to hang and tips for things to do… I took me more than a week to meet up with him but everyone will keep telling me how awesome he was and how much of almost a legend this man is.

For our first dinner he took me to what it will become my favorite spot/restaurant/bar in Amman, on a second floor, almost hidden and next to one of the oldest bars in city there was my little gangster corner of Jordan. The place was packed with man smoking and drinking (not that usual in an Arab country), local artists, thinkers, gangsters, and people that were giving me the constant look of “what the fuck are you doing here?”, but once you walk up with Ali it’s all good, people pretty much get on their knees for you. Every place we went had a picture of him with the owner or one of his art pieces.

I asked him what does he do for living, “Me? This is what I do, I live, I don’t work”, I knew for that moment we will become very good friends, far from the truth, Ali is not only an Art Teacher and works for Royal Film Commission of Jordan but also a very talented Artists and a casual actor. People like Ali make me wanna travel the world till my last breath, find out that there are people out there who lived their life to the fullest, people filled with stories and no matter the age will always be open for one last adventure.

Of course till yesterday I had no clue who Kobi Peretz was but as he walked at a bar that we were chillin in Tel Aviv, my friend Stav walk up to the dude told him I was a huge fan from Barcelona and I wanted a picture with him, after the flick he looked at me very serious and said "wellcome". DAYS OF RAGE IN BEIRUT.

When i was in Damascus I heard that Hezbollah got to bring down the government of Lebanon so they will stop the investigations of Rafik Hariri’s death. Beirut was already on my to do list and to be honest I never thought it will be a big deal, like this is not the first time Lebanon runs with no government and I didn’t think people will go nuts and go rage around.

Well I was wrong, I got there a day and a half before the riots, days of rage as they like to call them, and everything look like dream land, shit was mad expensive, rich ladies walking around in skirts, hot weather, I was kinda feeling the glamorous vibe of Beirut, I was tired so I decided to chill for the night.

Next morning I decided to walk to Hamra, the 5^th Ave of Beirut, make it to the port and see the pigeon rocks, then take this cable car that takes all the way up on the mountain so you can have a sick view of Beirut.

Its around 10, I already had my breakfast and I’m trying to make to Hamra, there are a few more armed man than usual but “hey this is Lebanon” it’s what tell myself, then while I’m walking between what appear to be some government buildings 5 military guys walk towards me and hold the hand I had on my camera up to my chest and say “where are you going?”, I’m like “well Hamra, am I in the wrong path?”, he looks at me down (the guy can play in the NBA no problem) “no go straight and no pictures, hand out of the camera”, I walk out of their way and didn’t really understand if I cant take pictures at all or it was just the block, since they are the ones with the ak-47’s I decided to don’t take any pictures until I reach a more populated area. Found Hamra, got to visit the caves, the pigeon rocks and did the mountain thing.

The day was quite dope, made it back to the hostel around 7sh… took a shower and nap a lil, around 10 I walk to the chill area to check my email but I run into 4 hot eastern flight attendants and a Jordanian pilot. They are drinking Vodka and one thing to another so I showed them my “I <3 kurwy” tattoo (I love bitches in Polish) somehow it worked and we all went out to feel the so called “Beirut night life”. The adventure turned into a fail, the streets were taken by the military and every single pub, club, bar was closed, we drove over 2h and finally we found an Irish pub 20 mins outside of Beirut, we were the only people there plus a bold man with a hooker on her 50’s. The night ended up alright and we got back to the hostel around 4am.

Slept a bit and since everybody told me about the riots I cancelled my trip to the ruins and decided to go South Beirut to see the protest, shit was hell on earth, but everyone was quite friendly with foreigners, there were tons of people taking pictures but at some point this 2 guys in black coats grab me ask me to walk with them, they show me their guns and I’m like “ok, sure you win”. They take me to a corner and sat me down on a bench, ask me why I was taking pictures and what was I doing in Beirut, at that point I realise they are not police or military but Hezbollah secret agents so I played as smooth as I could, I showed them my passport and all my stamps, told them I travel and take pictures, nothing more, no newspapers, no nothing. On of them get down and look at me in the eyes and goes “listen if you are Mossad you better tell me now, before its too late” I’m like “no man, I’m Spanish, I like football, sleeping and eating, that’s about it”. They say they need to take my film which included the rolls of yesterday, the one of the protest, and even one that is not even used, I tried to convince them to give them back, have them developed tomorrow and bring them somewhere and they can keep my passport until I show them the pictures, they say if I want them I have to with them for questioning, I already heard about those “Hezbollah questionings” and can be up 2 weeks with no civil rights, so I gave them the film and walk my way out of there. It took me forever to get back to the hostel, tires on fire on every road, etc.

Around 3pm I’m back, changed camera and film and decided to walk to the national museum, I already checked online and they are open and its about a 20 mins walk, so it felt like a doable plan. When I’m about to 3 blocks close the square is surrounded by military and they stop me, I’m like “really? Again?”, the man goes “go to hotel now, this dangerous”, I’m like “look I just wanna go the museum is right behind ya”, he tells me it’s closed and to go back home, I know he is bullshiting me so try to go around it, 5 minutes later a military truck stops and to my surprise is the same man again and goes “hotel now!”, I’m like “my hotel is that way man”, he ask me the name of my hotel and I’m like “touché asshole” you win I’m out. Everything was closed and at night the same thing, luckily I was leaving next day to Amman and decided to be positive about the adventure, I’m alive and well and this means I’ll have to come back to Beirut which isn’t a bad thing at all.

PALMYRA, SYRIA.

This are all the color film flicks of the lost city of Palmyra. We were told to sleep over there and wake early to see the sun rise, so after having to scape our room from a window (long story) we truly were at 5:15 at the ruins, about an hour and a half early and we froze to death but we still got to see the city all by ourselves and got to climb some lil hills and have some rads views. GIRLS GOT LIMITS.

I know this blog is lately mostly about GGL stuff but since I wanna keep GGL a "pictures only" blog and its basically what I do day by day, I'm afraid you are still gonna have to go back and forward from this 2 blogs.

To everyone sending me emails about what cameras do I use, this are some of the cameras I have use during the last few years: some compact, some point and shoot, some automatic, some manual, all film, no digi, no photoshop.

PS: I'm in Jordan right now and it seems to be a like a country with zero labs that would develope B&W film (trust me I looked hard for one) so I'll have to wait till I get to Israel and do a lil flash back bloggin.
